20 Years Later, Steven Spielberg’s Political Thriller With Daniel Craig Resurfaces on VOD Charts

Steven Spielberg has more than earned his title as one of the most legendary filmmakers of all time, but when you’ve directed as many projects as he has, it’s only natural for some to be lost to time. 20 years ago, Spielberg teamed up with Jason Bond icon Daniel Craig and former Incredible Hulk actor Eric Bana for Munich, the political thriller following the five men tasked with eliminating those responsible for the Black September capture and murders. Munich has mysteriously returned to global VOD charts 20 years after it first hit theaters, charting in the top 10 in Cambodia and other countries.

Munich is not currently streaming anywhere in America at the time of writing, but it will likely make its return to one of the major streaming giants soon. It was mostly well-liked by critics and audiences upon release, but not enough to land it in the upper echelon of Spielberg’s other projects. The film currently sits at respectable yet forgettable scores of 79% from critics and 83% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It also grossed $130 million at the box office against a $70 million budget — it wasn’t a disastrous flop, but the studio certainly would have liked to see it earn more.

Munich was nominated for five Oscars: Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Music. For Spielberg, Munich came three years before he returned to the Indiana Jones franchise for the final time with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was also three years after his sci-fi hit with Tom Cruise, Minority Report. Spielberg is famous for launching other franchises like Jurassic Park and Jaws.

When Does Steven Spielberg’s Next Movie Come Out?

Steven Spielberg’s next movie, which is still currently without a title, will be released in theaters everywhere on June 12, 2026. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film comes from an original idea from Spielberg, and he reunited with his long-time collaborator David Koepp, who wrote the script. Spielberg’s currently untitled event film also features a star-studded cast led by Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Wyatt Russell, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Michael Gaston, and more. During an interview earlier this year with Collider, Russell stayed tight-lipped about the project, but confirmed what a delight it was working with Spielberg.
