ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Showers and thunderstorms will continue across the region during the next 24 hours as warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico streams into the region. Rainfall could be heavy at times, especially in the east where one to two inches of rain is possible. Less than one is expected west of the Blue Ridge.

A second cold front will move into the region Thursday night. Along and ahead of the front, showers and storms are possible.

Due to increased cloud cover, temperatures will be a degree or two cooler, topping out in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Behind the front on Friday, showers and storms remain possible. Rain will become much more isolated over the weekend with highs in the mid-80s. Temperatures return to the upper 80s next week with rain a bit more widespread.
