Anya Taylor-Joy Pulls a Rare Dior Spring 2001 Dress From the Galliano Era for Marrakech Film Festival Jury Duty

Anya Taylor-Joy continued her run of Dior moments in Marrakech on Saturday, reaching into the John Galliano years for a spring 2001 dress as she arrived for the Jury Press Conference at the 22nd Marrakech International Film Festival.

The dress, cut in a fine black knit, followed a narrow line through the torso before breaking into an asymmetric hem. Its surface was built from linked crochet-style panels arranged in a twisting pattern from shoulder strap to skirt, creating a continuous motif along the length of the piece. A soft cowl neckline shaped the upper portion, held by slender straps that kept the dress close to the frame. Along the skirt, the knitwork shifted into denser, leaflike shapes, which traced the diagonal seams and added dimension as the hem dropped lower at the back.

The archival choice marks a return to the Galliano period for Taylor-Joy, who has worn pieces from the designer’s tenure at Dior in the past, including a slipdress from spring 1998 that appeared at the 2025 Golden Globes. The spring 2001 ready-to-wear collection, presented in Paris, was part of the house’s commercially significant push at the time. Dior’s chairman, Bernard Arnault, described that period as one defined by rapid growth, noting in WWD’s reporting that ready-to-wear sales had tripled under Galliano’s direction.

Taylor-Joy’s dress reflects the collection’s interest in hybrid construction and elongated lines, which were often joined by knit elements and irregular seaming. While the original runway included a wide range of silhouettes and references, pieces built on contouring knitwork were a recurring theme throughout the season.

Taylor-Joy finished the look with Aquazzura’s Olie sandals in black. The style featured a slim front strap, a matching ankle strap and a narrow stiletto heel. She added Tiffany & Co.’s Inside Out hoop earrings to complete the look.

Saturday’s appearance marked the festival’s daytime programming for jury members, who began their slate of events on Friday. Taylor-Joy is part of a panel that includes Bong Joon Ho, Julia Ducournau, Celine Song and Karim Aïnouz, all participating in the festival’s 22nd edition in Marrakech.
