Australian Docu-Soap ‘Billion Dollar Playground’ Acquired by Several Major Broadcasters
Fox Ent. Global, Fox Ent.’s worldwide content sales division, has secured key international pre-sales for Foxtel’s Australian docu-soap “Billion Dollar Playground,” with major broadcasters acquiring the series for their local audiences.
Under these deals, the series, produced by Ronde Media, will be available to viewers in the U.K. (BBC), Canada (Corus Ent.), New Zealand (Bravo) and Netherlands (Talpa TV).
The announcement was made Tuesday by David Smyth, executive vice president, content sales, Fox Ent. Global, at London TV Screenings.
Fox Ent. Global also holds the format rights to the series.
Set in the world of luxury hospitality, “Billion Dollar Playground” takes audiences inside the operations of Luxico, Australia’s premier high-end homestay and concierge provider. The series follows the young, ambitious staff as they cater to the demands of ultra-wealthy guests while managing their own personal relationships, workplace tensions and the constant pressure of perfection. “With its compelling mix of opulence, drama and romance, the show is sure to make its mark on the global stage,” according to a statement.
“’Billion Dollar Playground’ is a perfect example of a high-end docu-soap that delivers everything viewers love—aspirational lifestyles, high-stakes drama and compelling personalities,” Smyth said. “The strong international demand for the series underscores its universal appeal, and we are excited to partner with these leading broadcasters to bring this fabulous show to audiences worldwide.”
The sales of “Billion Dollar Playground” “reinforce Fox Ent. Global’s commitment to expanding its distribution of premium unscripted content and delivering engaging, high-quality programming to broadcasters and platforms across the globe,” the statement concluded.
