To celebrate this month’s release of the highly anticipated “Wicked: For Good” film — the second and final installation of the Broadway-to-big screen storyline — Cambridge Satchel has brought back its “Wicked” collection… and it looks better than ever.
Last year, the founded-in-2008 UK brand that’s loved for its leather handbags delighted Elphaba and Glinda superfans with an assortment of carryalls fit for all of life’s occasions: from attending classes at Shiz University to meeting the Wizard. The handbag selection, released in early fall of 2024, featured crossbody bags, structural top-handle bags, bowling bags, pouches for carrying just the essentials in style (while signaling to everyone your devotion to all things Oz), and beyond. The accessories were painted in Glinda and Elphaba’s signature bubblegum pink and emerald green colors, alongside opulent textures like sugary glitter and micro-pleated velvet. The “frenemies” also found common ground in split-color Cambridge Satchel styles like The Micro Bowls Bag and The Little One Bag.
Now, the handbag line has returned for good (get it?) but with a twist, which is perhaps subtle foreshadowing for all the unexpected plot twists we’re about to experience on November 21, when “Wicked: For Good” is hitting theaters. The collection’s bestselling Binocular Bag, for instance, is now swathed in a Lovelier Lavender shade as opposed to the original, pastel-powered Popular Pink. It’s the very same bag that was spotted on Ariana Grande’s Glinda in the first movie, which her popularity-chasing character paired with a purple-hued skirt suit on-screen.
Then there’s the all-new Grimmerie Bag, a grained calf leather beaut that features a pitch-black shade as an ode to “the secrets of Elphaba’s woodland lair,” per Cambridge Satchel. It’s angular and the kind of catchall that can hold all your secrets, too (read: the “Wicked” collaboration jewelry, makeup, and more that you recently purchased).
If you couldn’t take your eyes away from the Mini Sophie, it’s back as well: now equipped with an Emerald Metallic leather finish that will elevate your ensembles long after the credits roll on “Wicked: For Good,” while also being a fitting homage to the wonders of the Emerald City.
On the market for some bag charms? Cambridge Satchel is treating us to a never-before-seen batch perfect for everyone on your Christmas shopping list, whether they’re team Glinda, Elphaba, or are rooting for the duo’s friendship arc. (Yes, even those obsessed with Elphaba’s flying monkeys will be able to show this off thanks to the The Elphaba Flying Monkey Charm and The Elphaba Monkey Feather Badge, both composed of high-quality black leather with gold foil accents.)
After it appeared on the scene in the late 2000s, Cambridge Satchel quickly elbowed its way into the lexicons (and closets) of fashion insiders everywhere. Its hero product was, per the name, a modern take on the kind of satchel bags carried by British schoolchildren: prized for their durability and surprising capaciousness.
By 2015, the brand had teamed up with Vivienne Westwood twice on coveted squiggle-print satchel bags, while trendsetters like Taylor Swift, Emma Stone, and Suki Waterhouse started being seen on set and off-duty with Cambridge Satchel bags by their side. Look closely, and you can see some styles make cameos in “Girls,” “Mad Men,” and “Gossip Girl” — proving just how pivotal they ended up being in that era’s reigning style equations.
The new Cambridge Satchel “Wicked” Collection ranges from $25 to $720 and is available to shop now at us.cambridgesatchel.com.
