Couple buys house, unprepared for what they find in the attic

A couple were chocked to discover what was left in their loft by the previous owners of their recently purchased home.

Mica Grice and her partner got the keys to their home in Stoke-on-Trent in central England in October. However, they didn't look in the loft before moving in and when they eventually did, they found all that was left over from the people who used to live there.

Grice told Newsweek that her cousin, who is an electrician, went to the house to do work before they moved in and discovered the loft full of things. "I didn't know the full amount until my dad and partner spent the day emptying it so could start to sort it," she said.

"There was a bed frame up there bigger than the hatch so my dad had to cut it apart to get it down."

In a video on TikTok, which has amassed over 137,000 views in just three days, Grice shows the amount of things piled up in the loft, including furniture, full black sacks and children's toys.

She wrote in the text overlay of the video: "A friendly reminder to always check the loft before buying a house."

She told Newsweek: "We were honestly shocked at the amount but we expected it after the state the house was in and how difficult the sellers were when it came to removing other items in the house."

Sales of existing homes far surpass the sale of newly built homes in the U.S. In 2023, over 4 million existing homes were purchased, according to Statista, compared to under 1 million new builds.

Grice's video received thousands of likes and many comments with people sharing their reactions to her discovery.

Todd Bonzalez commented: "Friend of mine found £10,000 in a bag in the attic after they bought a house. The previous owner came looking for it a month later."

"My mum woke up in the middle of the night last week and said 'we never emptied granddads loft when we sold the house.' We sold granddads house in 2002," @kawaiigakigamer shared.

Emily wrote: "Mine has a mattress and writing on the wall."

"We have a desk chair up there, it's bigger than the loft hatch so that's where it's staying," said Becky.

"If you find Pokémon cards in there KEEP THEM!" Kat commented.
