Crocs Gets in on the Sneaker Loafer Trend With This Experimental New Shoe
It’s been a headline-worthy week for Crocs, which introduced two experimental new models within the span of 24 hours. Along with teasers of the first new shoe from head of creative innovation Steven Smith, Crocs also formally revealed its new Gallery Shoe.
The part-moccasin, part-sneaker Gallery Shoe riffs on the prevailing sneaker loafer trend, adding a slightly sophisticated edge to the Colorado-based brand’s traditional foam footwear. Its two-eye moccasin-styled upper is constructed in a synthetic suede material with a soft french terry lining.
The Gallery Shoe’s upper is affixed to a Croslite EVA foam sole which wraps up the sidewall, toe and heel. The Croslite base is paired with the brand’s LiteRide footbed, which Crocs describes as having “sink-in softness.”
Ryan Forsyth, senior global product manager of collaborations and energy at Crocs, shared a first look at the Gallery Shoe on Thursday. Forsyth noted the shoe was inspired by the brand’s Tideline Sport slip-on from 2012, while Crocs’ official product description connects the Gallery Shoe to the 2009 Tideline model. The new model features hole cut-outs at the toe as a homage to the Tideline lineage.
“Gallery was bred to blend archived with new, formal with unhurried. A true chameleon among the everyday staples of the world,” reads the Gallery Shoe’s official product description.
Debuting in Black Sand and Bark colorways, the Crocs Gallery Shoe is part of the brand’s Exp franchise which has previously featured models including the Hydra Clog, Quiet Clog and Quick Trail.
Along with the Gallery Shoe, the brand revealed Friday its new Ripple slip-on, the first design from industry veteran Smith, who prior to Crocs worked with Kanye West at the troubled artist’s Yeezy and Donda imprints. A release date for the Ripple has not yet been confirmed.
U.S. retail pricing for the Crocs Gallery Shoe is set at $100. It will be released Tuesday, Sept. 30 from crocs.com and select retailers. Both styles are pictured below.
