First ‘Cyberpunk Edgerunners’ Season 2 Teaser Sets Up a Brand New Story in Night City

It was only yesterday that Studio Trigger took the stage at Anime Expo in order to make the shocking revelation that a little show called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is now in production. Since the announcement hinted at a long creative process and provided no release windows, fans thought that this would pretty much be it for a while. At today’s Netflix panel at the same event, however, the streaming giant underscored the already highly anticipated release and unveiled the first teaser trailer for the follow-up series. You can check it out in this article.
The trailer makes one fact clear: David (voiced by Zach Aguilar) is dead. But that doesn’t mean that the story can’t go on. Night City is still a vibrant dystopian society with plenty of bounties to collect, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will take us on a new futuristic adventure. Netflix is dubbing the follow-up series “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge,” and the trailer hints that the story will be led by a new and younger character.
During the panel, Season 1 producer and writer Bartosz Sztybor (Mr. Car and the Knights Templar) celebrated the legacy of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and got emotional about the show’s success and sequel. He stated:
“When we first started making Cyberpunk, we never imagined what it was going to be. I thought that just five people would see the first season, and I would die forgotten. So thank you for being here, and thank you for watching ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.’ Thank you for the love that you gave to the show and all the creators.”
Who’s Behind ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’?
Aside from Sztybor, other important names are returning for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Kai Ikarashi, who worked as storyboard artist, animation director, animator, and prop designer in Season 1, now takes the reins of the series and makes his directorial debut with the episodes. Masahiko Otsuka (Star Wars: Visions) also returns as a screenwriter, while Ichigo Kanno (Delicious in Dungeon) is now the lead character designer. The new season will be a standalone adventure, even though it shares connections with Season 1 and the Cyberpunk 2077 video game.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is once again handled by Studio Trigger and CD Project Red. While fans wait for the new episodes, they can revisit Season 1 by owning the Blu-ray edition that will be released later this year. Since no release window was announced at the panel, a 2025 release for the series is highly unlikely — which means that the gap between seasons will be at least four years. Hopefully, it will be worth the wait.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is coming soon to Netflix. You can check out the first trailer above.
