Five people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip and in Nuseirat, a refugee camp in the centre, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Wednesday.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they were continuing operations in the areas concerned. Individuals firing rockets at IDF troops in Rafah had been targeted, the IDF said.

It added that the Israeli Air Force had struck targets in the city on Tuesday from where rockets had been fired at Israel. Terrorists had also been killed in the centre of the Gaza Strip, the report said.

IDF troops had killed a Hamas sniper and another member of the Palestinian militant organization in the north of the region on Tuesday, it said. According to the report, more than 25 targets were hit from the air across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

The Hamas-controlled health authority reported that at least 81 Palestinians had been killed in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.

At least 38,794 people have died and a further 89,364 have been injured since the start of the current war, according to the authority. The figures do not distinguish civilians and combatants and cannot be independently verified.
