‘Gilded Age’ Star John Douglas Thompson Joins ‘All the Sinners Bleed’ Series at Netflix (EXCLUSIVE)

The Netflix series adaptation of S.A. Crosby’s “All the Sinners Bleed” has cast John Douglas Thompson in a series regular role, Variety has learned exclusively.

Thompson joins previously announced series lead Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù in the drama, which was originally announced back in May as part of Netflix’s upfront presentation. The official logline for the series states, “Haunted by his devout mother’s untimely death, the first Black Sheriff (Dìrísù) in a small Bible Belt county must lead the hunt for a serial killer that has been preying on his Black community for years in the name of God.”

Thompson will play Albert Crown, the father to Dìrísù’s Titus Crown.

Thompson currently appears in the hit HBO period drama “The Gilded Age” in the role of Arthur Scott. His past TV credits include “Mare of Easttown” and “For Life,” while he has also appeared in films such as “Highest 2 Lowest,” “Till,” “The 355,” and “21 Bridges.” Thompson is a highly-accomplished stage actor, receiving a Tony Award nomination in 2017 for his work in the play “Jitney.” He won the Drama Desk Award for outstanding solo performance in 2014 for “Satchmo at the Waldorf” and received the Special Award from the organization in 2015.

Joe Robert Cole is adapting “All the Sinners Bleed” for the screen and will also serve as executive producer and showrunner in addition to directing multiple episodes, including the first. The Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions and Amblin Television are also executive producing along with Cosby.
