Welcome to Tried & True American Classics. To celebrate Town & Country’s 180th anniversary, we’re turning our discerning eyes to the brands and products that have set the standard and endured through generations. Here, we will spotlight American originals whose craftsmanship, quality and excellence have earned them a permanent place in our very T&C wardrobes, homes, and lives.
Some women are so far beyond stylish that their names are immortalized in handbags. There’s Jane Birkin, who inspired one of Hermès’s most iconic designs; Princess Diana, whose namesake was honored with the Lady Dior; and then Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who became synonymous with a Gucci hobo silhouette now known as the Jackie. So it’s only fitting that Lee Radziwill—another legendary sophisticate remembered for her exquisite taste—would have a handbag named after herself, too.

Tory Burch made the American-born-princess her muse with the creation of the Lee Radziwill Double Bag back in 2018. As the story goes, the brand’s founder, a close friend of Radziwill’s, had originally sent her a black version of the bag; Radziwill ended up loving it so much that she requested another version a few weeks later in red. As they say, the rest is history.
The perfect combination of structured and soft, the Radziwill Double Bag is best recognized for its signature double-layer design—a thoughtful detail that unfolds and drapes like the collar of a trench coat while revealing two slim compartments at the front and back alongside the spacious main interior. Its square silhouette, which is secured closed by a trio of snap buttons for easy access, transforms depending on how its carried: wearing it fully open or semi-buttoned delivers a more relaxed look with an effortlessly undone feel, while snapping it completely closed with the sleek T-lock belt clasp lends structure and a polished effect. The handbag is finished with a tubular top handle that looks just as chic carried by hand as it does in the crook of one’s arm. There’s also a removable crossbody strap for those who prefer to go hands-free. In other words, it’s a bag as elegant as the woman who inspired it.

Since its debut, the Lee Radziwill has become an instant hit in fashion circles, finding its way into the collections of many style enthusiasts and further cementing its place in the designer handbag hall of fame. Tory Burch has since expanded the line with equally-as-elegant silhouettes, including a bucket bag and, most recently, a more pared-back iteration for spring/summer 2026 in a slew of lush finishes and shades. For fall specifically, the label introduced one in black croc-embossed leather, as well as a bright red calf hair version finished with chocolate leather touches that has had me swooning since the moment I got my hands on it. The combination of the color and texture offers up just the right amount of oomph without overpowering an outfit. It’s ideal for fall.

The bag features distinctive double layer planels that create front and back compartments in addition to the main interior.
What really makes the bag special, though, is easily its versatility. It’s dressy enough to carry for formal dinners, polished enough for business meetings, yet will never look overdone or out of place in more casual settings. It’s one of those rare unicorn handbags that works for most occasions, and better still, is the perfect option for the woman who’s bad about changing her bags for every outfit and event.
Like Lee Radziwill, this Tory Burch handbag is exquisite, one-of-a-kind, and effortlessly chic—a fitting tribute to her enduring influence on fashion.
