‘I’m Still Here’ Gets More International Release Dates After Oscar Nominations
“I’m Still Here,” the Brazilian political drama that is nominated for three Academy Awards including best picture, is getting additional international release dates, Sony Pictures Classics announced on Tuesday.
Newly-announced Latin American and European release dates include: Feb. 6 for Mexico, Chile, Venezuela and Bolivia; Feb. 13, for Colombia; and Feb. 20, where it will play in Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador.
Also newly dated is a Feb. 21 release in Romania, Feb. 27 in Slovakia, and Feb. 28 in Poland and Turkey.
Walter Salles’ film, which was selected as Brazil’s official submission for this year’s Oscars and was additionally nominated for best international feature and best actress for Fernanda Torres, has already earned $18.7 million worldwide and is the highest-grossing Brazilian post-pandemic film in the country. The box office includes $1 million domestically from a limited New York and Los Angeles release last month. It will expand in the U.S. on Feb. 7.
“I’m Still Here” is based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s book that follows Eunice Paiva (Torres) as a mother of five children who is dealing with the forced disappearance of her husband, former leftist politician Rubens Paiva, during Brazil’s military dictatorship.
The film reunites Sony Pictures Classics with Salles, following their collaboration on 1998 drama “Central Station.” With her nomination for “I’m Still Here” Torres has become the second Brazilian actress ever nominated for the best actress Oscar, following her mother and now “I’m Still Here” co-star Fernanda Montenegro, who earned the nomination for “Central Station.”
