Jenna Ortega and Anya Taylor-Joy Coordinate in Black With Backless and Floral-detailed Gowns in Marrakech

Jenna Ortega and Anya Taylor-Joy opened the 22nd Marrakech International Film Festival in coordinating black gowns defined by proportion — from sculpted structure to suspended volume.

Ortega continued her streak of backless looks, opting for a structured halter column built featuring sharp angles. The “Wednesday” star’s bodice featured an asymmetrical V-cut neckline and a satin-framed waist that pushed into a sculpted peplum before dropping into a long, straight skirt.

From the back, the dress opened completely, revealing a cutaway panel that extended to the lower waist. The hem concealed a pair of black Roker Highbury boots, a familiar pairing in Ortega’s recent run of red carpet looks.

Taylor-Joy chose a custom black interpretation of a billowing look from Dior’s spring 2026 collection — a silhouette originally presented in cream with suspended tiers and floral cuffs. Her version preserved the runway build: a strapless upper tier gathered softly at the neckline and drawn in again at the lower waist, creating a controlled volume through the torso. Dense clusters of white floral appliqués were positioned at each side of the waist and tied with long black ribbons, mirroring the placement and scale of the original. The global ambassador and star of Tiffany & Co.’s holiday campaign finished the look with Rock Wings pieces in platinum and diamonds from the brand.

The spring 2026 collection marked Jonathan Anderson’s womenswear debut for Dior, a season WWD’s Joelle Diderich described as a “clean sweep of the past,” defined by suspended shapes, softened structures and deliberate volume. Taylor-Joy’s adaptation held closely to those references while shifting the palette to black for the festival’s opening ceremony.

Ortega and Taylor-Joy’s appearance marked the festival’s first red carpet for this year’s jury slate, which includes Bong Joon Ho, Julia Ducournau, Celine Song and Karim Aïnouz. The festival opened with Gus Van Sant’s crime drama “Dead Man’s Wire,” starring Bill Skarsgård.
