Kamala Harris Receives Chairman’s Honor in LaQuan Smith’s Strong Shoulder Suit at NAACP Image Awards 2025
In her first major public event since leaving the White House, Kamala Harris chose to wear an all-black look. The former United States Vice President dressed up in a custom LaQuan Smith suit to receive the Chairman’s Award at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday. She was accompanied at the ceremony by her husband, Doug Emhoff.

Harris’ suit featured a structured black blazer with strong shoulders and clean lines. Underneath, she wore a black high-neck blouse. The monochromatic look was styled with black trousers featuring delicate silver lines.
The former Vice President has previously collaborated with LaQuan Smith for her looks, wearing a custom black gown created by the designer at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s annual Phoenix Awards dinner in September.

While being honored at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards for her public service, Harris gave an inspirational speech. “We use our power, we organize, mobilize, we educate and we advocate. Because, you see, our power has never come from having an easy path. Our strength flows from our faith — faith in God, faith in each other and our refusal to surrender to cynicism and destruction. Not because it is easy, but because it is necessary. Not because victory is guaranteed, but because the fight is worth it,” she said.

The Chairman’s Award is given to people who “excel in public service and leverage their unique platforms to ignite and drive meaningful change,” according to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the organization behind the awards ceremony.

The 2025 NAACP Image Awards, held on Saturday at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and hosted by Dean Cole, honor the entertainers who left an indelible impact on arts and entertainment culture in 2024. The Wayans family will be inducted into the NAACP Hall of Fame and former Vice President Kamala Harris will receive the Chairman’s Award.
