Lucy Liu Anchors Chanel Textured Midi Dress With Pearl-heeled Pumps at TriBeCa Through Her Lens Luncheon
Lucy Liu stepped out in a signature Chanel silhouette — finished with a subversive sculptural heel — at Friday’s Through Her Lens luncheon hosted by Chanel and TriBeCa in New York.
The actor and juror of the filmmaker program wore black Chanel mary jane pumps featuring a rounded toe and a thin strap across the instep. The minimalist upper gave way to a statement heel composed of stacked faux pearls bordered by polished gold-tone discs — a recurring motif in the house’s recent footwear. Modest in height, the shoes delivered visual impact while staying grounded in Chanel’s legacy of feminine tailoring and unexpected materials.

She paired the heels with a look from Chanel’s spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection: a long-sleeve, body-skimming midi dress in a textured white knit with horizontal black stripes. The design included black-trimmed faux pockets at the hips, a slim red belt detail at the waist and a tonal palette punctuated by a red Chanel logo appliqué at the collarbone.

Liu finished the look with a quilted Chanel mini bag worn crossbody with the house’s signature gold-and-pearl chain strap. Accessories included oversize black sunglasses and gold drop earrings with a single pearl detail. On her wrist, she layered multiple gold and diamond bracelets, underscoring the brand’s ongoing play between polish and whimsy.
At the same luncheon in September 2024, Liu wore a sleeveless navy knit top with a gold Chanel nameplate and high-waisted black wide-leg trousers woven with tonal sequins and metallic flecks. Her footwear wasn’t visible beneath the floor-grazing hemline, but the two ensembles share a through line in their emphasis on texture and archival signatures — from hardware embellishments to trompe-l’oeil silhouettes.

The luncheon took place at The Greenwich Hotel Courtyard and celebrated emerging filmmakers in Chanel and TriBeCa’s Through Her Lens program, which supports women and nonbinary directors. Chanel and TriBeCa also announced “Through Her Lens Conversation: In Process,” a free public event on Friday at Metrograph featuring Chanel ambassador Riley Keough and creative partner Gina Gammell discussing their documentary series on female creativity. Liu served as a juror for this year’s pitch forum alongside Olivia Wilde, Beanie Feldstein and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
