New clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli soldiers in Lebanon
Hezbollah fighters and Israeli troops remain engaged in direct clashes in southern Lebanon, with the Iran-backed militia claiming that Israeli soldiers had attempted to enter the village of Ramyah in the border area.
Hezbollah fighters had detonated an explosive device near the troops. "The clashes are ongoing," Hezbollah said.
The Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen broadcaster reported that Israeli soldiers had hidden behind a post of the UN observer mission UNIFIL in Ramyah. Israel, in turn, accuses the militia of using UN soldiers' posts as human shields.
The Israeli army reported that in various clashes, a reservist and an officer were severely injured in southern Lebanon. Others were reportedly also injured among the army's ranks. The injured had been evacuated.
Four Israeli divisions are so far involved in Israel's ground offensive in Lebanon. Israel keeps the strength and number of troops that have entered the neighbouring country secret.
They appear to have crossed or attempted to cross the demarcation line in four different sections of the border area: in the Naqoura region on the Mediterranean coast as well as in three sections further east near Ramyah, in the larger vicinity of Bint Jbeil and further north near Adaisseh.
