One of Batman’s Most Underrated Villains Gets an Exclusive New Figure Based on ‘The Animated Series’

It’s been over 30 years since Batman: The Animated Series changed the DC Comics world forever. The critically-acclaimed series introduced a whole new generation of Batman and his expansive rogue’s gallery. However, the show also created some original villains that would go on to become cult classics in their own right. These included Harley Quinn and Roxy Rocket. Now, one of BTAS most underrated original villains is getting a new figure from McFarlane Toys.

A Walmart exclusive part of McFarlane’s DC Direct line, the latest six-inch scale BTAS figure is Lock-Up. This new version is a Black Light Edition Gold Label deluxe figure. This piece will also include a baton, an art card with a stand, and a base with two battery-powered black lights. This is the second time McFarlane has done a figure for Lock-Up. The first version was a Build-A-Figure for one of the many BTAS waves. This exclusive figure will be $29.99 USD.

What Batman Could Have Been

Lyle Bolton, aka Lock-Up, appeared in the 17th episode of BTAS Season 2 as the main villain. While he only appeared in that one story throughout the entirety of the show, he had quite an impact. Lyle was an over-aggressive guard at Arkham Asylum who enjoyed his job way too much. He loved assaulting the inmates to the point where even villains like Scarecrow were afraid of them.

This got the attention of Bruce Wayne, who contributed to Lyle getting fired. This made him snap and become the vigilante Lock-Up. He went on to use more extreme methods, then battled it out with Batman. With the help of Robin, The Dark Knight eventually came out on top, sending Lyle to his favorite place, Arkham Asylum. This time as an inmate. It was a classic episode written by the legendary Paul Dini that perfectly showed what Batman could have become if he didn’t have his support system around him. Also, because of the nature of the episode, it featured a ton of The Caped Crusader’s more iconic rouge members, like Harley Quinn, The Ventriloquist, Scarface, and the previously mentioned Scarecrow.

Batman: The Animated Series (including “Lock-Up”) is currently streaming on HBO Max alongside films like Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Batman Beyond: Return of The Joker. BTAS is also readily available on DVD and Blu-ray. Before your next DC marathon, you can pre-order Lock-Up’s McFarlane DC Direct figure on their website. The figure will also be available in Walmart stores.
