Oscar-Nominated Palestinian-Israeli Doc ‘No Other Land’ Scores U.K. TV Deal With Channel 4 (EXCLUSIVE)
“No Other Land,” the Palestinian-Israeli Oscar-nominated documentary, has secured a U.K. broadcast deal with Channel 4.
The film depicts the Israeli government’s efforts to force Palestinians from their homes in Masafer Yatta in the southern West Bank, and last year won the Berlinale Documentary Award and the Panorama Audience Award.
The timely film, which shows the gradual demolition of houses and entire villages by the Israeli military’s bulldozers, has also played in a slew of other prestigious events including the New York Film Festival and won the top prizes from the New York Film Critics Circle and the International Documentary Assn.
This is the first announced TV deal on “No Other Land,” which is directed by a Palestinian-Israeli collective of four young activists – Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham, Rachel Szor and Basel Adra.
The project began in 2019, when Adra met Jerusalem-based journalists Abraham and Szor, who were reporting on Israeli evictions of local residents, and offered his first-hand perspective on events.
Dogwoof, which holds all U.K. rights, released the film theatrically in the U.K. and Ireland last November.
While “No Other Land,” which is sold by Austrian documentary sales outfit Autlook, has been picked up for distribution in 24 countries, the politically sensitive doc has been unable to find a distributor in the U.S., where it still managed to open theatrically on Jan. 31 with Cinetic Media facilitating bookings via Michael Tuckman Media.
A production from Palestine and Norway “No Other Land” is produced by Fabien Greenberg & Bård Kjøge Rønning. The doc’s production companies include Antipode Films and Yabayay.
