Patricio Campillo Fall 2025: Channeling Mexican Heritage in a Complex Collection
Patricio Campillo’s Mexican heritage is unmistakable in his collections. From the silver-plated buttons that referenced the palm tree leaves he saw growing up on a coffee plantation to the classic Chorro tailoring in the suits, the influence was evident throughout his fall lineup.
The LVMH Prize finalist’s collection, titled “Fictions of Reality,” was influenced by the works of Mexican surrealist painter Remedios Varo and resulted in the creation of an assortment of technically complex looks achieved by what he described as “the manipulation of textiles.”
Case in point were suits in a wool, silk and linen blend wrought with wrinkles that Campillo spent hours creating by hand-pinning the fabric, ironing it, removing the pins and then fusing it. He used the same technique on a leather suit that he said looked stiff enough that it could stand on its own.
“That just changes the body and how it moves,” he said.
Throughout the collection there was a sense of romanticism, as evidenced by the elongated silhouettes in the drapey tops, exaggerated palazzo pants and duster coats.
Other details, such as Mexican-inspired embroidery on sleeves and bell-bottom pants, gave the collection a pop of energy.
He was also successful in reworking traditional menswear silhouettes by offering blazers with wrinkled double lapels and cummerbunds over dress shirts with exaggerated sleeves.
Campillo’s ability to combine craftsmanship with modernity as he redefines menswear was a welcome addition to the calendar.
