‘Peaky Blinders’ World Will Continue After Netflix Film, Creator Steven Knight Says
“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is not done with his hit creation yet.
Speaking on the “BBC Breakfast” show on Tuesday, Knight said that the highly anticipated Netflix feature film continuation of the hit series has wrapped filming and is shaping up to be a fitting sendoff – though he hinted the story is far from over.
Knight confirmed that production on the film concluded on Dec. 13. “We’re putting it together now,” he said. “I would say this, wouldn’t I? But it’s fantastic. We’ve got the best, I think, the best British actors all in one place, including Stephen .”
He revealed that early footage has been promising. “The stuff that I’m watching – the rushes, the assemblies – no one will be disappointed. It is quite an incredible thing,” he said. “It’s a very fitting way to end this part of the ‘Peaky’ story.”
However, Knight left the door open for more. “This part, yes,” he emphasized, choosing his words carefully. When pressed on whether another film or series could follow, he remained tight-lipped but teased: “I’m not allowed to announce it, but I’m just saying that the world of ‘Peaky’ will continue.”
In the continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s, Cillian Murphy reprises his role as Tommy Shelby in the film written by Knight, who produces alongside Patrick Holland, Murphy and Guy Heeley. Executive producers include Tom Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren and David Mason. The film is being made in association with BBC Film. The cast also includes Barry Keoghan.
Beyond “Peaky Blinders,” Knight has another major project hitting screens soon. His new drama, “A Thousand Blows” is set to premiere this Friday on Disney+ in the U.K. and on Hulu in the U.S., adding to a packed slate for the prolific creator.
