Ryan Coogler and Wife Zinzi Coogler Coordinate in Thom Browne Brogues for National Board of Review Awards Gala

Ryan Coogler and his wife Zinzi Coogler coordinated their looks for the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City on Tuesday in Thom Browne looks, which included wingtip brogue shoes.

Zinzi Coogler, a film producer who counts her husband’s latest directorial project “Sinners” among her credits, wore a hybrid shoe style the American luxury brand continues to reinterpret: brogue heels. She wore a pointed-toe wingtip pump in a navy and white colorway, with the characteristic perforations of a brogue along the navy sections. Also borrowing from the dress shoe style, the shoe featured lacing and a tongue at the vamp. Meanwhile, a sculpted heel elevated the set.

This silhouette has been worn by Ariana Grande in a pink and white version, and Thom Browne has taken the brogue heel in other directions with options like higher-vamp styles (see Catherine Zeta-Jones’ rose-adorned pair) and slingbacks.

Ryan Coogler had on his own version of wingtips, a style so named for the curvaceous design on the toe that recalls a bird’s wing. The director wore a black patent leather almond-toe dress shoe with additional perforations around the upper. Both sets of shoes featured the blue, white and red striped tag of the designer in back.

For Zinzi Coogler, her brogues accompanied a navy and white tweed ensemble including a matching dress and jacket. Ryan Coogler wore a black and white suit featuring a draped cape-like blazer with slits, eschewing conventional sleeves.

At the event, Ryan Coogler received the honor for best original screenplay for “Sinners.”
