Seahawks Prank Rookie Byron Murphy II With Massive $155,000 Dinner Bill

Every NFL season ushers in brand-new rookie players coming out of college and elsewhere. Naturally, the rookies are involved in some light hazing that includes horrible haircuts, carrying equipment, and the ever-popular insanely priced dinner bill.

Though players showcase real dinner bills that are in the thousands of dollars, a new trend has taken hold of NFL teams, which is to prank rookies into thinking they have to cover six-figure amounts. That is exactly what the Seattle Seahawks did to Byron Muphy II.

While out at the rookie dinner, Murphy was handed a bill that had a massive price of $155,788.77. Naturally, the veterans began to mess with Murphy, who looked like he was about to have a heart attack.

The vets begin to run around to show off the massive bill while laughing, leading to Murphy finally seeing the damage. Naturally, his eyes go wide with horror thinking he has to pay over $100,00 on one check.

The joke goes on for quite some time until Murphy is given the real check. The real check totals $38,015.82. Though that is still not a small amount, it is far better than having to spend over $100,000 on one meal.

Murphy signed a $16.08 million rookie contract, which contains four years and a fifth-year option. According to overthecap.com, Murphy is due $2,924,204 in 2024. This includes his base salary of $795,000 and a prorated signing bonus of $2,129,204.

If Murphy had to pay a $155,000 check, that would have accounted for five percent of his salary in 2024. That is a massive amount to pay for one meal.

Murphy thankfully did not have to pay that much, but the Seahawks did their best to welcome the dynamic rookie to the team with the infamous fake dinner bill prank.

Murphy was drafted by the Seahawks at No. 16 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Texas. While with the Longhorns, Murphy secured 70 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and eight sacks through three seasons.

Murphy's pass-rushing skills were attractive to many teams, but the Seahawks chose to draft him with their first-round pick in the draft. As a member of Seattle, the young rookie has secured 36 total tackles, and half a sack through 13 games.

Murphy is likely to have a breakout year in 2025, despite being a bit more on the low-production side in 2024. For now, he can just be happy he wasn't hit with a massive dinner bill his first season in the NFL.
