Sources: Two men from Venezuela and Ecuador arrested after fatal attack in Norwood Park
CHICAGO (WGN) — Two men are in custody after a 63-year-old man was found unresponsive, bound with duct tape and an extension cord, and later died in Norwood Park Sunday night.
Chicago police sources tell WGN News two men are in police custody and both are migrants — one from Venezuela and the other from Ecuador. One of the men is in his early 20’s.
Sources said one man was found and taken into custody in Logan Square, while the other was found in Norwood Park, about a mile-and-a-half from the crime scene. One of the two men was also previously arrested in connection to a child luring case involving two teenage girls. Charges were downgraded in that case, according to police.
The Chicago Police Department responded to the 7600 block of West Talcott Avenue around 11 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found 63-year-old George Levin unresponsive in a basement bedroom, bound with duct tape and an extension cord.
After an autopsy was done on Levin’s body, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office found he died of multiple injuries and ruled his death a homicide.
“I’m actually very shocked. Ever since the violence in Chicago has been creeping up, we’ve been more alert, aware,” said Minerva Kacprzak, a neighbor of Levin’s “We have security cameras everywhere our neighbors tend to be cautious as well because you never know.”
