Tatiana Maslany Is Screaming Her Lungs Out In a New ‘Keeper’ Image [Exclusive]

After thrilling and chilling audiences with Longlegs and The Monkey, filmmaker Oz Perkins is on quite a roll. In just a year and a half, the director will have delivered three feature-length productions thanks to the November 14 arrival of his latest foray into the spooky and scary with Keeper. If you’ve been paying attention to the project’s trailers and other promo material, you likely know that Perkins and the marketing team are choosing to keep their cards close to their chests for this one, as was done for the Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe serial killer thriller, Longlegs. Today, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’ve got a brand-new image from the film that might help put together another puzzle piece surrounding the title’s mysterious plot.
Featuring one of its two leading performers, our Keeper snapshot sees Tatiana Maslany’s character going through an absolutely terrible time. In the dark still, the actress, who plays a character named Liz, is illuminated only by an orange glow which just barely allows the viewer to see a pair of mysterious hands grasping at her throat while she screams out for help. Keeper follows Liz (Maslany) and Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland), a couple who are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city by way of a nice, forested retreat to a remote cabin. Their weekend getaway quickly gets interrupted after Malcolm is forced to return to the city, leaving Liz on her own. There, the woman finds herself in a terrifying position after an evil entity reveals itself and begins to show her the cabin’s dark and twisted history.
During a chat with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff over the summer at SDCC, Perkins teased a bit more about the themes of the movie, revealing
“It sort of wears the vestments of a cabin in the woods, single location, something-trippy-is-going-on-in-this-space movie. But in reality, it’s sort of a relationship horror. Like, why are relationships so weird and hard? Who are we really? What is this about? How does this end? Why did this start? Can we go back to before we knew each other? Wouldn’t that be something? In certain relationships, we get to the end of it, and it’s like, ‘You know, what would be amazing? Is if I could just have never known you ever at all. That would be fine with me.’ And so I think that’s the sauce of the movie, is sort of relationships and what they do to us.”
Oz Perkins and Tatiana Maslany’s Cinematic Reunion
As fans of Perkins’ will know, this isn’t the first time the director and leading lady have paired up to traumatize audiences. Earlier this year, alongside Theo James, Maslany starred in Perkins’ adaptation of the Stephen King short story, The Monkey, where she played a caring and eccentric mother to the younger version of James’ twin characters, who were played by Christian Convery. Clearly, the pair enjoyed their time on the set of the gore-filled comedy horror flick, as they decided to keep the party going with Keeper.
