Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s next era is marriage, and the internet is freaking out

It’s been a long time coming: Taylor Swift’s and Travis Kelce are finally trying the knot.
In a joint Instagram post captioned “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the couple announced their engagement, set to the tune of Swift’s song “So High School.” The post, which features five photos of the couple in a rose garden, has amassed almost 4 million likes in its first 30 minutes.
The pair first started dating in the summer of 2023, at the height of Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour, thanks in part to Kelce’s attempt at giving the singer a friendship bracelet (a concert tradition).
Since going public in September 2023, the pair has routinely attended each other’s concerts and games, with the Kansas City Chiefs star even performing alongside Swift during one of her shows.
The courtship has certainly been a fruitful one for the NFL, with Taylor Swift’s stardom reportedly bringing in $1 billion worth of revenue and publicity to the league.
While the singer is now in a happy relationship, her early reputation for writing breakup songs still resonates with fans who, immediately after the announcement was posted, took over social media to celebrate how far Swift has come.
“Me going out to tell everyone that Taylor Swift is getting married,” one user posted on X, alongside an image of Paul Revere atop a galloping horse.
Other users also jokingly acted as if the announcement came from a close friend, a nod to their devotion to the artist.
“I’m so happy for my close and personal friend Taylor Swift,” one user posted on X. Another user wrote: “not to be parasocial but hearing that taylor swift is engaged genuinely made me so happy like.. she’s marrying the man she’s been writing songs about since she was a teenager.”
On TikTok, users are posting their reactions to the announcement, with one user posting a video of them rolling on the ground and rolling on the couch, captioned “POV: you found out Taylor Swift got engaged.”
Of course, not everyone is celebrating Kelce and Swift, with one user mocking the pair by linking them to notoriously cringe characters from the show Glee. But at least everyone can agree that the news traveled blazingly fast. “I’m getting more texts about Taylor Swift’s engagement than I would ever get about my own,” a user said on X.
