How often can you afford to be late? If, for some reason, your answer is “50% of the time,” then Kotobukiya just released the perfect item for you. This week, the Japanese toy company unveiled a new plush alarm clock whose design is inspired by the character/monster card Time Wizard from the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and anime franchise. There’s only one little twist to it: The alarm clock only works half the time.

The mechanism is inspired by the Joey Wheeler (voiced by Hiroki Takahashi in the original Japanese, and by Wayne Grayson in the English dub) A-rank monster card Time Wizard, featured both in the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game and the anime series. Players who put the card in their decks are willing to take an all-or-nothing approach to the game. The Time Wizard spins its little wheel and, if the pointer falls on the tower, all monsters from the opponent are destroyed. If it falls on the skull, your monsters are destroyed, and you lose half of their combined attack points.

It’s a gamble, and one that Yu-Gi-Oh! fans now have to decide if they want to make when it’s time to wake up to go to work or school. Additionally, the Time Wizard plush has a “coin-toss” mechanism in which it can give you random yes/no answers for when you are having trouble making a decision. If none of that interests you, its 1/1 scale makes it a cool and maybe even vintage accessory for you to have at hand. The current price is listed as ¥ 6,050, which is roughly $40. The item starts shipping in December, but it’s already available for pre-order on the Kotobukiya online store.

What’s Going On in the ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ Universe?

The most recent iteration of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series, titled Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! ended its 151-episode run earlier this year and, so far, no new animated series has been announced to keep the franchise going. Since the trading card game often introduces new mechanics, though, chances are that a new anime title will get announced sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, fans get to see monthly episodes of the free-to-stream series Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles. The series centers around the events inside the cards themselves and explores the lore of several of them.

This year, the original anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters — which first introduced the Time Wizard to viewers — celebrates its 25th anniversary, so it’s possible that fans might still get some surprise announcements in the coming months. Since the 2000 debut, the longest hiatus between spin-off anime series was the seven months that separated Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS and Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens. It’s been four months since Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! ended, so a new announcement by the end of 2025 would be welcomed with open arms by fans.

The Time Wizard plush alarm clock is available for pre-order on the Kotobukiya online store.
