Tom Hanks Premieres New Play at The Shed
Tom Hanks is returning to the New York stage this fall, for the first time in over a decade.
The Academy Award-winning actor is costarring with Kelli O’Hara in “This World of Tomorrow,” a new production, at The Shed. Hanks stars in the play as Bert Allenberry, “a disenchanted scientist from the future” who time-travels from the end of the 21st century in search of love, and finds himself at the 1939 New York World’s Fair in Queens.
Hanks cowrote the play, based on his collection of short stories, with James Glossman. Tony-winner Kenny Leon, who most recently worked on the Broadway revival of “Othello,” will direct.
In 2013, Hanks made his Broadway debut in Nora Ephron’s “Lucky Guy,” garnering a Tony nomination for best actor.
“This World of Tomorrow” will begin preview performances on Oct. 30. Opening night is set for The Shed’s annual gala on Nov. 18, which will also honor the organization’s board member and Coach chairman Lew Frankfort.
