Two Berkeley residents arrested after Gaza protest at Stanford Shopping Center
(KRON) — A demonstration protesting the war in Gaza was staged at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, two people were arrested, and one police officer was injured, police said.
Palo Alto Police Department officers were monitoring the anti-war demonstration at 6 p.m. Monday when they saw a woman use spray paint to scrawl text across an Apple Store’s front windows. PAPD identified that woman as 26-year-old Fatima Yahyaa of Berkeley.
“When officers attempted to detain (Yahyaa), she ran from officers and attempted to enter
the passenger seat of a waiting vehicle occupied by a male driver. As an officer attempted
to extract the struggling female suspect from the open door of the vehicle, the male driver
abruptly pulled away from the curb slamming the officer’s hand in the door, knocking him to
the ground, and running over his foot. The vehicle was able to elude capture at that time,” the police department wrote.
The officer suffered moderate hand and foot injuries and was treated at a hospital.
Later that night, Yahyaa was found and arrested in Berkeley. She was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose for vandalism, conspiracy, and resisting arrest with violence.
Detectives said they identified the getaway driver as 25-year-old True Brading of Berkeley.
Detectives arrested Brading Thursday night in El Sobrante. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.

“During the same demonstration, a counter-demonstrator reported that his Israeli flag had been taken from him. The victim, a male in his fifties, reported that he did not know which of the demonstrators had taken it. The flag is outstanding and the suspect remains unidentified,” the police department wrote.
PAPD said it is investigating the flag-stealing incident as a hate crime. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to paloalto@tipnow.org.
