Venice Film Festival Jury: Fernanda Torres, Mohammad Rasoulof, Cristian Mungiu and More Join President Alexander Payne

The full international juries roster for this year’s Venice Film Festival has been unveiled.

The director-heavy lineup joining previously announced competition president Alexander Payne consists of: Oscar-nominated Brazilian actress and writer Fernanda Torres (“I’m Still Here”), prominent Iranian auteur Mohammad Rasoulof (“The Seed of the Sacred Fig”), Palme d’Or-winning Romanian director-writer-producer Cristian Mungiu (“4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days”), French director Stéphane Brizé (“Out of Season”), Italian director Maura Delpero (“Vermiglio”) and Chinese actor and producer Zhao Tao (“Caught by the Tides”).

In addition to awarding the Golden Lion for best film, the competition jury will also be responsible for handing out the Silver Lion grand jury prize, Silver Lion for best director, Coppa Volpi for best actress, Coppa Volpi for best actor, special jury prize, best screenplay and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for new young actor or actress.

Meanwhile, Palme d’Or-winning French director Julia Ducournau (“Titane”), who was back in Cannes this year with “Alpha,” will preside over the Horizons (Orizzonti) section dedicated to more cutting-edge works.

The Horizons jury will also include Italian director and video artist Yuri Ancarani (“The Challenge,” “Atlantide”), Argentine film critic Fernando Enrique Juan Lima, Australian director Shannon Murphy (“Babyteeth”) and American artist and filmmaker RaMell Ross (“Nickel Boys”).

Additionally, Scottish filmmaker Charlotte Wells (“Aftersun”) will head the jury for the Luigi de Laurentiis Award for best first work across all Venice sections, which is worth $100,000.

Joining Wells on the Venice jury for best first work are French-Tunisian director and producer Erige Sehiri (“Promised Sky”), a founding member of the the Rawiyat – Sisters in Film collective that supports female Arab filmmakers, and Italian director Silvio Soldini.

The 82nd edition of Venice will run Aug. 27-Sept. 6. The lineup will be announced on July 22.
