Veteran Tour Chronicler Cameron Crowe Finally Set to Go on Tour Himself, With Guests Including Sheryl Crow and Kate Hudson

Filmmaker Cameron Crowe got his start interviewing touring musicians for Rolling Stone, and now he’s finally going on tour himself. Crowe will be taking on the role of headliner in seven cities for appearances behind his new memoir, “The Uncool,” joined by guests who will participate in conversation with the journalist-turned-director.

The first show will be on Oct. 29, the day after the book hits stores. On that date, at Washington, D.C.’s Warner Theatre, Jake Tapper will be Crowe’s guest for the evening. The following night, on Oct. 30 in Nashville at the CMA Theatre, it will be an evening of counting crows — so to speak — as Crowe is joined by local hero Sheryl Crow. The other confirmed guest so far is Kate Hudson, one of the stars of his film “Almost Famous,” who will sit with Crowe on his home turf, appearing at the Magnolia in the greater San Diego area on Nov. 13.

Nights where no guest has been announced yet are Chicago’s Athenaeum Center, on Nov. 1; Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, Nov. 19; Hollywood’s Montalban, for two nights, Nov. 20-21; and San Francisco’s Orpheum, for the final night of the tour on Nov. 23.

“I’ve always loved telling the stories behind the stories,” Crowe said in a statement. “Introducing friends and loved ones to the unforgettable characters and adventures that inspired my journalism and movies has always been a passion. Now coinciding with the 25th anniversary of ‘Almost Famous’ and the release of ‘The Uncool,’ I can’t wait to share those intimate stories and evenings with the audiences who’ve followed my work over the years. It’s not only a privilege, it’ll be a blast.”

Live Nation is promoting the tour. The first presale, designated as “a Cameron Crowe presale,” starts Thursday at 10 a.m. local time, with additional presales to follow. The general on-sale will begin this Friday at 10 a.m. local, via LiveNation.com.

“The Uncool” is the first of two books that will look back on Crowe’s beginnings as a music journalist. He explained the split in a statement to the Associated Press. “I spent the last decade or so re-interviewing those early subjects like (David) Bowie and Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and Led Zeppelin,” he said. “The act of looking back on their younger selves brought out the same in me. The book split into two, the first one being a personal memoir. The second one will come out next year, with a lot of new interview material.”
