You Have 6 Days to Watch One of the Greatest Sci-Fi Movies on Netflix

Audiences have been blessed with some of the best action and sci-fi movies of all time in the past 25 years, but few are better than 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Directed by George Miller, with the Australian filmmaker being cited as having had the idea of “almost a continuous chase” installment back in 1987, Fury Road is one of the quintessential movies in both the action and sci-fi genres perhaps of all time, and, if you’re one of the millions who regularly re-watch this cinematic spectacle, you’ll have to hurry as, officially, Mad Max: Fury Road is scheduled to leave Netflix on January 1, 2026.

Starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in some of their best work to date, Fury Road gained enormous critical recognition, turning in a near-perfect 96% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus reading, “With exhilarating action and a surprising amount of narrative heft, Mad Max: Fury Road brings George Miller’s post-apocalyptic franchise roaring vigorously back to life.” In Matt Goldberg‘s review of the film for Collider, he wrote, “Miller’s picture bursts from the mold, screaming and mesmerizing. It’s a pulse-pounding ride with tremendous performances, an electrifying score, unforgettable set design, astounding cinematography, and all in service of not only entertaining the audience, but also shaking them from a stupor.” A synopsis for the movie reads:

“Years after the collapse of civilization, the tyrannical Immortan Joe enslaves apocalypse survivors inside the desert fortress the Citadel. When the warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) leads the despot’s five wives in a daring escape, she forges an alliance with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a loner and former captive. Fortified in the massive, armored truck, the War Rig, they try to outrun the ruthless warlord and his henchmen in a deadly high-speed chase through the Wasteland.”

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Turned a Big Budget Into Box Office Success

Not just a huge hit with audiences and a ten-time Oscar nominee, Mad Max: Fury Road was also a box office triumph despite boasting an eye-watering $150 million budget. Worldwide, the movie returned $380 million in box office revenue, a total split between a domestic haul of $154 million and a further $226 million from overseas markets. Sadly, the recent prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, managed just $170 million and ultimately flopped despite similarly positive reception.
