Scott Orlin Named President of Revived Hollywood Foreign Press Association

Scott Orlin has been elected president of the newly re-established Hollywood Foreign Press Association, just days after a group of legacy members voted Helen Hoehne out as its president. Hoehne is now president of the Golden Globes LLC, but had headed the HFPA before it was dissolved in 2023.

At that time, the formerly non-profit HFPA’s Golden Globes assets were acquired by Dick Clark Prods. (which is owned by PMC, Variety‘s parent company) and Todd Boehly’s Eldridge company. As part of the change to the Globes as a for-profit entity, the HFPA was disestablished but its members were given a financial offer to remain as voters for the new Globes operation. (Earlier this year the Globes announced it would end those salaries and offer a one-time buyout.)

With a dispute brewing between some HFPA members and the Globes, HFPA board members gathered at the end of June for a vote to re-establish the organization.

Orlin is still listed on the Golden Globes website as a voting member, although insiders say the org is currently looking at its voter pool for the 83rd event set for January 2026, and is still expecting journalists from more than 90 territories to participate.

Per his bio on the Golden Globes website, Atlanta-born Orlin has served as the the American correspondent for the German film publication Cinema Magazine, “and also on in-house publications as Kino, Video Plus and TV Spielfilm. In addition, he supplies video content for the publication’s online edition and has worked with Pro 7 assisting in their Oscar coverage for the past 20 years. Prior to his journalistic endeavors, he worked for ASCAP, Talia Film as well as composer David Shire, where he served as the award-winning composer’s assistant on the Broadway musical ‘Baby.’”

Orlin received the Publicist Guild’s International Journalist of the Year award in 1995.

The Globes and DCP declined comment; Variety has also reached out to the HFPA board for comment. The Wrap was first to break the news of Orlin’s election.
