A Valentino Icon Gets an Update for Fall
Since its debut in 2010, the Valentino Garavani Rockstud collection has become synonymous with the storied maison. Those pyramid-shaped metal studs that have adorned plenty of shoes, handbags, and other accessories are unmistakable.
Valentino has unveiled several styles featuring the edgy embellishments over the years, but arguably one of the most popular of the bunch has been the Rockstud Spike bag.

Originally introduced on the Valentino fall/winter 2016-2017 runway under the helm of Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri, the Rockstud Spike is best recognized for its rectangular shape, quilted leather, and signature studding. Now 10 years after its debut, the handbag is getting a fresh update for fall 2026 with new archival references and decorative details under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele.
The new and improved Rockstud Spike retains many of the classic details of the original—like the turn-lock closure, quilted leather, and hand-applied hardware—but now with modern updates, including an elongated horizontal shape crafted in supple goatskin or suede in a range of colorways, from timeless neutrals to rich seasonal tones, like burnt orange and ochre.

As part of the reimagined collection, Michele also unveiled two new interpretations of the hang. The first one draws from Valentino’s archive and is crafted in black nappa leather and adorned with delicate floral and butterfly embroideries throughout. Per the maison, the butterfly is meant to symbolize transformation, lightness, and expressive freedom.
Michele’s second interpretation of the handbag is crafted in glossy precious leather and features the house’s harlequin-inspired motif through an intricate patchwork construction in contrasting colors.
The new Valentino Garavani Rockstud Spike bag is available to shop online now and in Valentino boutiques worldwide.
