And Just Like That… brought the women of Sex and the City back to fans. Well, Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda are back… sans Samantha. With Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis back in action, the show has brought new challenges to their lives. Like Miranda and Steve (David Eigenberg) getting a divorce, Aidan (John Corbett) coming back into Carrie’s life, and now Charlotte and Harry (Evan Handler) going through a health crisis together. The news that Harry had cancer came as a shock to fans, and they were originally afraid of what it meant for the character. But executive producer Michael Patrick King spoke about Harry’s diagnosis.

It was revealed that the character has prostate cancer. Even though Harry pointed out that his version of the disease has a 98% survival rate, he asked to keep it private for now and so both Charlotte and Harry are going to work through it together. The cast has talked about how it is very much something people have to go through in real life, and it is inspiring since Handler himself is a cancer survivor. King shared with The Wrap that it was a nice change for Charlotte, who would need support this time from her friends instead of being the one giving the support.

“Charlotte has been the grounded support for everyone for the last two years, so we knew from the writing point of view it was time for her to need support,” he said. But King also made it clear that the Goldenblatt family was going to be fine in the end. “Do you think I’m going to kill Harry?” he said.

Kristin Davis Was Happy This Is What Charlotte and Harry Had to Face

In another interview with Variety, Davis spoke about how she knew that something would go on with them as a couple but that she was grateful that it wasn’t something unforgivable for them as a couple. “I knew something would happen, right? We couldn’t just go on, if you know what I mean,” she said. “It could have been worse — at least I didn’t have to cheat on him or something like that, right? That would be so out of character; it would make no sense. I knew Michael wouldn’t do that, but I was like, ‘Oh, God, cancer.’ Which is how Charlotte feels, and, of course, how everyone would feel.”

Davis went on to share that Harry wanting Charlotte to keep it a secret does take a toll on her. “But the thing that I love, that you’ll see in the second half, is that it has a really great way that it goes — in terms of Charlotte having to keep the secret that Harry wants her to keep, and the toll that it takes on her,” Davis said. “She’s trying to take care of him, and then she’s trying to fulfill his wishes about who she tells or doesn’t tell. So she really doesn’t have her friends, and she ends up not taking care of herself.

You can see Davis and Handler on the new season of And Just Like That… on HBO Max.
