China Box Office: Bi Gan’s Resurrection Debuts at No. 1 as ‘Demon Slayer’ Holds Firm

Huace Pictures’ “Resurrection,” directed by Bi Gan, opened on top of the China box office with RMB116.8 million ($16.5 million) over the weekend of Nov. 21–23, according to Artisan Gateway.

In “Resurrection,” starring Jackson Yee, Shu Qi, Mark Chao, Li Gengxi, Huang Jue and Chen Yongzhong, humanity has lost the ability to dream, with only one creature still entranced by fading illusions of the dreamworld. When a woman with the rare power to perceive these illusions appears, she chooses to enter the monster’s dreams, determined to uncover hidden truths within.

Aniplex’s “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” held second place with $15.6 million, lifting its total to $79.3 million. Directed by Sotozaki Haruo and produced by ufotable, the film adapts the climactic final arc of Gotouge Koyoharu’s blockbuster manga. Returning voice cast members include Hanae Natsuki, Kitō Akari, Shimono Hiro, and Matsuoka Yoshitsugu. The film follows the Demon Slayer Corps’ all-out assault on Kibutsuji Muzan’s stronghold in a bid to end the war between humans and demons.

“Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” from Lionsgate Films, ranked third with $7 million, taking its cumulative haul to $34.1 million.

“Predator: Badlands,” a 20th Century Studios release, placed fourth with $1 million and now stands at $14.5 million.

“Row to Win,” from PMF Pictures, rounded out the top five with $0.6 million, bringing its total to $63.7 million. The comedy-drama directed by Ma Lin and starring Huang Bo, Fan Chengcheng, Yin Tao and Li Jiaqi, follows a coastal-town family – led by a once-tough patriarch – who rally together in hard times and push for a comeback.

China’s weekend box office reached $44 million – a steep fall from last week’s $79.7 million – bringing year-to-date nationwide grosses to $6.48 billion, up 16% compared to 2024.
