Cinespia Caps Summer Screenings With ‘This Is Spinal Tap,’ ‘Alien’ and More
Cinespia at Hollywood Forever Cemetery will finish out the summer with Labor Day weekend screenings of “The Princess Bride” and “The Silence of the Lambs,” plus the September screenings of “This Is Spinal Tap” with Rob Reiner in person and “Alien.”
The screening series, now in its 24th season, is presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video,
“Labor Day weekend is one of our favorite times of year, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with great films and a great crowd,” said Cinespia founder John Wyatt. “There’s something electric about closing out the summer with these timeless films, especially when you’re watching them with thousands of people under an open sky,” Wyatt added.
The screenings will include Cinespia’s signature djs spinning before and after each movie, plus the popular free photo booth with backdrops from famous films. A beer and wine bar and concession stands are also available.
The schedule is as follows:
Saturday, August 30 – “The Princess Bride”
A farm boy, a princess, a six-fingered man, and the most charming revenge plot ever told — “The Princess Bride” is a storybook come to life. Westley (Cary Elwes) faces cliffs, pirates, and death itself to save Buttercup (Robin Wright), all while looking extremely good in a mask. Inigo Montoya has one mission, Miracle Max has one cure, and Vizzini has one word: “Inconceivable!”
Sunday, August 31 – “The Silence of the Lambs”
Clarice is just trying to climb the FBI ladder — unfortunately, her mentor is a cannibal. “The Silence of the Lambs” serves fava beans, fine Chianti, and five Academy Awards, all wrapped in one elegant psychological nightmare. Lecter is charming, Buffalo Bill is lotion-obsessed, and the suspense could filet you on the spot.
Saturday, September 6 – “This Is Spinal Tap”
With Rob Reiner in person! Go onstage and behind the scenes in the riotous mock rock and roll creation that offers timeless shocks and guffaws. Film director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner) captures the sights, sounds, and smells of Spinal Tap, the English heavy metal band gearing up for a comeback and their biggest U.S. tour to date. Can the band turn their trek into a tour de force, or will it be another “Shark Sandwich?” Speed on down for the guitar riffs and ridiculousness of the rowdy, raucous rockumentary that brought us the classics “Sex Farm,” “Big Bottom,” “Hell Hole.”
Saturday, September 13 – Alien
“Alien” is landing under the stars, and it’s still the scariest thing in space. A routine mission turns into mayhem when something slithers aboard, and, well, dinner doesn’t go as planned. Ridley Scott made outer space scary, H.R. Giger made it nightmare fuel, and Sigourney Weaver made it iconic. Suspenseful, iconic, and totally unmissable — this is the one that started it all.
