Coldplay’s Chris Martin Tells Fans to ‘Send Love’ to Family of Slain Right-Wing Activist Charlie Kirk
Charlie Kirk was not a fan of Coldplay — once saying he found its music “very hard to listen to” — but the band’s frontman, Chris Martin, has urged fans to spread love throughout the world including to Kirk’s family.
Martin, during Coldplay’s concert at London’s Wembley Stadium on Friday evening, appealed to the crowd to “send love anywhere you want to send it in the world,” including to “to Charlie Kirk’s family.”
Kirk, the pro-Trump founder of student-oriented conservative nonprofit Turning Point USA, was shot and killed Wednesday at a debate at Utah Valley University. He was 31. Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two young children. On Friday, authorities announced they had arrested the suspected shooter.
“For the final time for a few years in London, let’s raise our hands like this” — Martin said on stage, raising his arms over his head — “and send love anywhere you want to send it in the world. There are so many places that might need it today,” according to video taken at the Wembley concert (see below). The Sept. 12 show was the last stop of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour.
Martin continued, “So here it comes from London. You can send this to your brother or your sister. You can send it to the families of people who’ve been going through terrible stuff. You can send it to Charlie Kirk’s family. You can send it to anybody’s family. You can send it to people you disagree with, but you send them love anyway.”
In July 2025, Kirk had said on his show, “I would rather be caught dead than be at a Coldplay concert. I would rather go to a WNBA game than go to a Coldplay concert. Couldn’t think of something more boring and banal and a waste of time. But it’s fine, it’s a free society, you can do whatever you want.”
“I find Coldplay music very hard to listen to,” Kirk said on the segment.
Kirk made the remarks as part of commenting on the viral video of the tech CEO and his head of HR caught on the “kiss-cam” at a Coldplay concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The segment of “The Charlie Kirk Show” was titled “The One Word That Perfectly Explains Viral Coldplay CEO Cheater.” According to Kirk, the one word is “shame.”
