T&C Tried & True: WNU’s New Jeans Are Good—Like, Really Good
Here at T&C, we pride ourselves on our discerning eye for quality. With Tried & True, our editors will give you an inside look at the pieces they simply cannot live without.
No disrespect to the Brits, but good, high-quality denim is kinda an American thing. They can take all the credit for waxed jackets, wellies, and tweed, all classics in their own right. But denim belongs to the USA. At least, that’s what I thought up until I tried a pair from With Nothing Underneath’s new denim collection.
The British label is best known for its signature tailored shirting—both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are big fans—but in recent years have expanded into pants, knitwear, and outerwear, which have also earned rave reviews from me and my fellow editors.
Ahead of fall, WNU launched its first-ever denim collection, debuting three jean silhouettes with names that pay a subtle homage to three different style icons. First, there’s the high-waisted, wide-leg Fawcett; then, the Stevie, which is cropped flare-leg; and finally, the Crawford, which is the one I got to test.
The Crawford is a high-rise, straight-leg jean—it cinches in the waist, sculpts the bum, and falls into a clean straight line from hip down to ankle. In other words, a classic style. The silhouette, a shape I normally gravitate towards, looks super flattering on the body and elongates the legs, but what I wasn’t expecting was the denim itself. The jeans are made of non-stretch denim, similar to what you’d expect from a pair of vintage Levi’s. I knew I would be getting a flattering pair of jeans since straight cuts normally look best on me, but I didn’t know I would be getting an old-school rigid jean.

Honestly, that was a pleasant surprise. I’m not someone who usually gravitates towards rigid—I like maximum comfort—but these jeans, they’re winners for sure. The denim is top-tier. I saw and felt the quality straight out of the package. They’re sturdy and structured, and the way they mold to the body is just unreal. They looked phenomenal on from the first wear and have continued to flatter even more after the second and third wear, so I can only imagine what they’ll look like after a few more months. The one thing I will note, though, is that they are a bit long on me (I’m 5-foot-3 for reference), but I don’t mind the pooling at the hem.

As for styling, the Crawfords are a true wear-everywhere, every day, every season pair. They go great with simple tops, but can also be dressed up with a pair of heeled mules and a blouse and blazer. I can also see these looking great with the denim version of WNU’s Boyfriend shirt, which I also love—but that’s a review for another day. All in all, color me impressed.
