Mark Ronson Celebrates Book Launch With Dua Lipa, The Dare & More
By the end of New York Fashion Week, some took straight to bed (can’t say we blame them). But for those looking to let off some steam, Mark Ronson provided. The DJ took over downstairs club Artspace at the Public hotel to host a ’90s-style dance party in honor of his new book, “Night People: How to Be a DJ in ’90s New York City.”
Guests including Dua Lipa, The Dare and Ann Dexter-Jones joined Ronson for the party, where Don Julio cocktails were sipped and DJs like DJ Stretch Armstrong, Jeff Brown and Belinda Becker performed. The night’s surprise big performer was Souls of Mischief.
“This is such an emotional evening,” Ronson told the room. “I wrote this book because I wanted to celebrate this era, this magic era I came up DJing the city in. I wanted to pay respects to the craft and the thing that I love most in the world, which is f–king DJing in basements like this.”
“When I first decided that I wanted to write this book the first title that I had was ‘93 ’til Infinity’ because yes, its one of the greatest f-king songs of the entire era, and it’s the year that I started DJing,” Ronson said of the book’s title. “Halfway through I changed the name to ‘Night People’ because I don’t want to be borrowing from another truly great act and their song. But when I knew I wanted to do this party tonight there was only one f–king group that I wanted to perform and so I’m so excited and beyond thrilled, I’m going to be dancing like a f–king idiot.”
Before Souls of Mischief took over, Ronson gave a rallying cry for the current party scene in New York.
“You know what, sh-ts still magical, there’s still amazing parties, you guys are here tonight,” he said. “Have a f–king incredible night.”
