Marvel’s Best Movie of 2025 Has Returned to the Streaming Charts
2025 has been a particularly tough year for Marvel. The year before the MCU reaches its next major milestone with the arrival of Avengers: Doomsday, all three of the biggest franchise’s latest entries have proven unsuccessful at the box office. Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World faced critical and audience backlash on its way to a disastrous box office run, and the huge summer arrival of The Fantastic Four: First Steps slumped to a disappointing global haul, with this underperformance made all the worse by rival Superman outgrossing both.
However, one of the most egregious box office misrepresentations of the year comes from the MCU’s worst-performing 2025 movie financially: Thunderbolts*. Earning less than $400 million globally, the movie is one of the lowest-grossing films in the franchise’s history, despite being one of the best in terms of quality over the past few years. Thankfully, Thunderbolts* is finding redemption on the small screen, officially returning to the streaming charts. At the time of writing, the Jake Schreier-directed movie is the ninth most-streamed movie on Disney+ in the U.S. Against stacked competition, Thunderbolts* continues to prove popular, although not as popular as the current chart topper, The Nightmare Before Christmas. The Thunderbolts* synopsis reads:
“In Thunderbolts*, Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?”
The New Avengers Will Return in ‘Doomsday’
For the many who loved the New Avengers and their chaotic take on the shiny, corporate originals, you won’t have to wait too long before they return. Yelena (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Bucky (Sebastian Stan), and Bob (Lewis Pullman) will each return in Doomsday next December, alongside one of the most eye-catching casts of this decade. This includes Robert Downey Jr. in his new role as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, and even Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto, as well as many, many more.
Thunderbolts* is streaming now on Disney+. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming updates.
