Oscars Submissions Site Opens With New Producer Sign-Off Requirement
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has opened its Oscars submissions portal, offering producers and studios the opportunity to purchase and upload streaming assets directly to the Academy Screening Room. Studios and filmmakers can now visit to begin the entry process for the upcoming 98th Academy Awards.
Films released between Jan. 1 and June 30 must be submitted by Wednesday, Sept. 10, by 5 p.m. PT; those released between July 1 and Dec. 31 will have to get in their documents by Thursday, Nov. 13, 5 p.m. PT. To complete the General Entry/Feature Film submission, the Academy must receive both a signed Oscars Submission Form and a copy of the complete screen credits by the specified date and time.
Beginning this year, every credited producer — and anyone listed with a “producer” or “produced by” credit — must sign the General Entry form. The new requirement ensures all parties are appropriately informed of eligibility criteria and potential designated award recipients. This change is undoubtedly tied to the number of “Nominees to be Determined” that were announced last year.
As presenters Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott read out the best picture category, five of the 10 films were listed with the title followed by “nominees to be determined,” which drew laughs from the audience. “Guys paperwork, come on, come on, come on,” Sennott quipped.
In addition to best picture, separate entry requirements and deadlines apply for these categories: animated feature, animated short, documentary feature, documentary short, international feature, live action short, original score, original song and visual effects.
The fall film festivals are right around the corner with the Toronto Film Festival announcing the world premieres of Lionsgate’s “Good Fortune,” the directorial debut from Aziz Ansari, A24’s “Eternity” from David Freyne, Sony Pictures Classics’ “Nuremberg” from James Vanderbilt and David Michôd’s “Christy,” a hot acquisition title starring Sydney Sweeney. Studios and independent producers are encouraged to plan, as late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted. The Academy Screening Room’s streaming upload option is designed to simplify viewing for Academy voters, who rely on secure digital access to screen entries.
