Rupert Everett "Was In Bed For Two Weeks" After He Was “Fired” From “Emily In Paris”
Rupert Everett Was Fired From Emily In Paris
In the Season 4 finale of Emily in Paris, British actor Rupert Everett starred as glamorous interior designer Giorgio Barbieri, who reunites with his old friend, Emily's boss Sylvie Grateau, when she looks for a new office in Italy.
Rupert believed that his character would be returning to the hit Netflix series in the next season. However, he has now confirmed that he will not be appearing in Season 5 as he bluntly claimed that he had been “fired” without so much as a phone call.
Production on the upcoming season of Emily in Paris kicked off back in May, and Rupert was left disappointed when he didn’t hear from the showrunners.
In a new interview with Vanity Fair Italia, the star explained: “I was fired. I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me: ‘Next year we’ll speak.’”
"I waited for them to call me, but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me,” Rupert went on. “Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end.”
"When they write the screenplay, they think they want you, but then things change, and they lose your character. I don’t know why,” he continued, before admitting that he was deeply impacted by this decision.
"For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn’t get over it,” Rupert told the publication.
While Netflix declined to comment on Rupert’s claims, a source close to the production told Vanity Fair that Rupert had only ever been hired as a guest star, and his character’s story had already reached its conclusion.
It’s not currently known when Season 5 of Emily in Paris will hit our screens, but it sounds like Rupert definitely won’t be watching.
