Saweetie Puts the Black Slingback Pump in Play at London Fashion Week’s EE72 Launch
Saweetie is the latest celebrity to embrace the black slingback pump, wearing the slinky silhouette to Edward and Akua Enninful’s EE72 launch party in London on Friday during Fashion Week.
Her pair featured a pointed toe and slim heel, cut low on the vamp and held by a thin strap at the back. The silhouette has been everywhere, from the tarmac as Queen Letizia prepared to visit Egypt to Demi Lovato’s stop at “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” earlier this week — a simple stiletto that slips easily between front rows, carpets and off-duty moments.

The silhouette’s staying power lies in that adaptability. Whether set on a kitten heel or a steeper incline, black slingbacks give the polish of a pump without the weight of a closed back. Designers from Gianvito Rossi to Saint Laurent have kept versions in their lines, keeping the shape visible long after trend cycles shift.
The “Icy Girl” singer styled the pumps with a red-and-black look curated by Wilford Lenov. The outfit combined Overdrive Studio’s Roman pleated dress with distressed lining, Reverie’s faux leather Aurora maxi coat and a gold Shun TT bar necklace by Lag World.

The London stop followed her New York appearance at EE72’s stateside launch, where she wore Rene Caovilla’s Chandelier pumps. That pair, in black velvet with sequined wraparound straps and fringe, leaned into ornamentation. These slingbacks, by contrast, offered a stripped-down counterpoint: pointed, streamlined and pared back to essentials.
The silhouette’s current run has stretched across celebrity wardrobes. Reese Witherspoon styled patent slingbacks with a navy skirt suit during “The Morning Show” press tour, while Gwyneth Paltrow wore kitten-heeled versions in the Michael Kors front row. Amal Clooney and Kim Kardashian have also leaned on the style in recent months.
