Viaplay Content Distribution Boards Trio of Nordic Comedy Series From ‘Solsidan’ Producers at FLX (EXCLUSIVE)
The distribution arm of Viaplay, the Scandinavian streamer co-owned by France’s Canal+ Group, has secured global sales rights to a trio of Nordic series “Adults,” “Suburbia” and “Second Run.”
Handled by Viaplay Content Distribution, the three shows are produced by SF Studios-owned FLX, the leading Swedish banner behind “Solsidan” and “Welcome to Sweden.”
Adults” is a dramedy created by Amanda Högberg (“Love & Anarchy”) and Daniel Karlsson (“My Father Marianne”); and directed by Felix Herngren (“Bonus Family”), Måns Herngren (“The Restaurant”), and Adam Pålsson (“Meaning of Life”). The cast is led by Carla Sehn (“Love & Anarchy”), David Dencik (“Prisoner”), Simon Reithner (“Beck”) and Rakel Wärmländer (“Limbo”).
The show follows the life of Mathilda, whose perfect life derails when her boyfriend drops a surprise marriage proposal, leading her to navigate mounting pressures and a secret affair.
“Suburbia,” which has been commissioned by Warner Bros. Discovery, tells the story of Anders, a suburban family man who has a meltdown after his daughter gets bullied at school.
Directed by Henrik Schyffert (“Sunny Side,” “Run Uje Run”) alongside John Nordling, “Suburbia” is penned by Tove Eriksen Hillblom (“Meaning of Life”) and writer Maria Nygren (“Love & Anarchy”). The ensemble cast is led by Mattias Nordkvist (“The Breakthrough”), alongside Sanna Sundqvist (“All and Eva”), Johan Widerberg (“The Wife”), and Helena af Sandeberg (“Meaning of Life”).
“The Second Run,” ordered by Swedish broadcaster SVT, is a witty comedy set against the stunning backdrop of a remote ski resort where Madde and Petter traded their fast-paced Stockholm life to run a small family-owned hotel in a cozy mountain retreat. But reality hits hard as disasters pile up.
The show is directed by Herngren, Martin Persson (“Bonus Family”), Eddie Åhgren (“Meaning of Life”), and Emma Bucht (“Every Other Week”). Writers are Niclas Carlsson (“Sjölyckan”), Erik Hultkvist (“Blinded”), and Tapio Leopold (“Trouble”).
“The Second Run” stars Sanna Sundqvist (“Thank you, I’m sorry”), Jakob Setterberg (“Grotesco”), Mattias Fransson (“Sandhamn Murders”), and William Spetz (“Tore”).
“These titles are a testament to the strength of Nordic dramedy and comedy, which increasingly resonates globally,” said Vanda Rapti, Viaplay Select and Content Distribution EVP. “Viaplay Originals such as ‘Pørni’, ‘All & Eva’, ‘Call Me Dad’ and ‘Love Me’ have travelled widely and successfully, and we see the same potential in these three unique shows,” Rapti continued.
Joshua Mehr, FLX CEO, added: “Viaplay Content Distribution has been a driving force in taking our shows beyond the Nordics. We’re thrilled to keep that momentum going.”
Viaplay, which was previously one of the biggest producers and purveyors of Nordic originals in Scandinavia, has been shifting its focus to international distribution since restructuring two years ago.
